LA FAMILIACELASTRACEAEEN LA CUENCA DEL RÍO BALSAS, MÉXICO
Abstract
This taxonomic-floristic treatment of the family
Celastraceae in the Balsas River basin, Mexico,
is intended as a contribution to the knowledge
of the Flora of Mexico. Nine genera and 18 species are treated. A key to the genera is presented,
and for each genus the following information is
provided: generic description, a statement on the
size and distribution of the genus, literature references, and a key to the species. For each species the following information is given: species
description, synonymy, vernacular names if any,
geographical distribution, specimen citations by
states, elevational ranges, plant communities in
which it grows, flowering period, uses of the plant
if any, and a distribution map. Each genus is illustrated. Three genera and ten species are reported for the first time from the study area. The
genera (and their number of species) found in the
Balsas River basin are: Celastrus (2), Euonymus
(1), Maytenus (3), Mortonia (1), Perrottetia (1),
Rhacoma (1),Schaefferia (2), Wimmeria (5), and
Zinowiewia (2)
