PINUS CHIAPENSIS: UN ENFOQUE ECOLÓGICO DE SU ANATOMÍA FOLIAR
Abstract
Ecological data and anatomical leaf
characters of Pinus chiapensis, a threatened
species, have been recorded in the state
of Oaxaca, Mexico. Phytogeographical
evidence suggests that the present
distribution of the species is relictual.
Although this species inhabits areas of high
moisture and rainfall, the leaves are
xeromorphic (sunken stomata, thick cuticle
and subepidermic sclerenchyma). These
results support the hypothesis of a
palaeoclimatic adaptation.
