Abstract

(Palynotaxonomy of some Brazilian species
of Ossaea DC., Melastomataceae). The
pollen morphology of nine species and
two varieties of the genus Ossaea
(Melastomataceae) was described based
on the light and scanning electronic
microscope analysis of acetolized pollen
grains. The species presented small,
heteropolar pollen grains, with subtriangular
amb, and heterocolpate (three elongate
and narrow colpori with lalongate
endoaperture, alternate with three
operculate colpi). The exine is psilate under
LM analysis, or rugulate under SEM. The
pollen morphology of the species is related
to the buzz pollination, and emphasizes the
stenopalynous condition of the family.
