LISTA ACTUALIZADA DE LAS ALGAS MARINAS BENTÓNICAS DE PUERTO MORELOS, QUINTANA ROO, CARIBE MEXICANO

Abstract

An actualized (floristic and nomenclature)
list of the benthic marine algae of Puerto
Morelos, Quintana Roo, Mexican Caribbean
is presented. It is composed of 72 species
of Chlorophyceae, 32 Phaeophyceae, and
109 Rhodophyceae (213 especies). The
local florula belongs to the general
phycoflora previously described for the
Mexican Caribbean. It is suggested that
the source of the algal drifts, common in
the area, is autochtonous. Sargassum
platycarpum Montagne and Chondria
cnicophylla (Melvill) De Toni are new
records for Puerto Morelos. A mention is
made about the role of floristic checklist in
algal systematics and ecology.
