THE TRIBE EUPHORBIEAE DUMORT (EUPHORBIACEAE) IN THE CHAPADA DIAMANTINA, BAHIA, BRAZIL: PALINOLOGY AND TAXONOMIC IMPLICATIONS

Abstract

(The tribe Euphorbieae Dumort (Euphorbiaceae) in Chapada Diamantina, Bahia, Brasil: Palinology and Taxonomic Implication). This work dealt with 16 species of the genera of three genera: Chamaesyce Gray (C. hyssopifolia, C. hirta, C. prostrata, C. tamanduana and C. potentilloides), Euphorbia L. (E. appariciana, E. gymnoclada, E. sessilifolia, E. sarcodes, E. goyazensis, E. crossadenia, E. comosa and E. heterodoxa), and Poinsettia Graham (P. heterophylla and P. insulana). The pollen grains were acetolised, and analysed through optic microscopy and photomicrographied. The pollen grain of the species studied were characterized as: small to medium sized; prolate spheroidal, prolate, subprolate, 3- colporate, ectoaperture with psilate, thin or large margin (absence in Poinsettia pollen grains); microrreticulate, reticulate or perforate exina. There were recognized three pollinic types, based on exina ornamentation and apertures: type Chamaesyce, type Euphorbia and type Poinsettia. All genera studied presented stenopalynous condition in the level of the species.
